Bossier Parish Community College Nature & Biology Essay

Thinking about what you learned in this class during the semester, write 1500-2000 words on the following prompts:

(1) Readdress “what is life?”  Answer that question based on what you learned this semester.  Compare your answer NOW to what you wrote about this topic as originally assigned.  What has changed? What have you learned this semester?

DO NOT copy and paste your OLD essay material into the new essay.  You are expected to REFERENCE and CITE to that original work, but for the purposes of comparison and to show educational growth.  Focus on what you have learned SINCE your original point of view and demonstrate your learning.  For example, you could write, “When I came into this class the first week, I thought LIFE could spontaneously generate from ‘pneuma’.  I wrote extensively about Aristotle in my original answer.  Now, I know that Aristotle was wrong on some of these ideas and that cells only come from other living cells…”  Make sure you are doing a full “compare and contrast” activity and truly self-assessing.  THIS IS ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED AND HOW YOU CAN WRITE ABOUT YOUR PROGRESS IN LEARNING BIOLOGY OVER THE ENTIRE SEMESTER.

(2) What is something you would like to continue to learn about in the future?  How can Biology and/or the scientific method help you to study something that is interesting to you?
