Pick one species as your favorite creature! It could be a type of animal, plant, fungus or bacteria.  It must be a single specific type of organism.  For example, do not select “animals,” “plants,” “fungi,” or “bacteria.”  Humans and domestic dogs and cats are excluded. Use reliable information sources to research this creature, including its evolutionary history.  

Your post must include the following:

The common name of your creature.

The scientific name (the two-part scientific name consists of the genus and species names) of your creature.  For example, the scientific name of a white oak tree is Quercus alba, where Quercus is the genus and alba is the species.

An image of your creature.  Include the actual image – not just a link.  The reader should not have to click on all links you may have included as references to see if one of them contains the required image of your creature.  If the image is not directly visible, it will be considered absent for grading purposes.

A brief explanation of the evolutionary history of your creature including identification of some of its evolutionary ancestors and other existing species to which it is related.

A diagram illustrating the evolutionary history of your creature (similar to Figure 14 in the reading).  Include the actual diagram – not just a link.  The reader should not have to click on all links you may have included as references to see if one of them contains the required evolutionary history diagram for your creature.  If the diagram is not directly visible, it will be considered absent for grading purposes.
